End-Grain Chopping Board

This beech carries warm honey-gold colouring accentuated by a full saturation of mineral oil. The end-grain reveals concentric rings of annual growth in each block, creating an almost hypnotic mosaic across the surface.

Beech has been the choice of European butchers and bakers for centuries. Dense enough to take punishment, tight-grained enough to resist bacteria, yet gentle on knife edges when cutting.

The variation between cream and amber blocks is natural. No two sections of a tree are identical, and this board celebrates that difference.

Made as a wedding gift, this board was commissioned with one request: something that would become a kitchen heirloom. The engraving on the edge marks the year it was made and the family it was made for.

The juice groove runs the full perimeter with a juice pool on one long edge, practical for carving a roast, directing juices exactly where you want them. The substantial thickness gives weight and stability.
