Dining Table

European Oak · Trestle Base

Solid oak dining table with trestle base in a contemporary London home

The Design

Trestle Form

The trestle is one of the oldest table forms. A design born from necessity that has endured because it works. This interpretation keeps the essence: a solid top floating on robust legs, braced by a central stretcher.

The proportions were set by the room it was made for. Long enough to seat eight comfortably, narrow enough to encourage conversation across the table.

Paired here with Wegner Wishbone chairs, a Scandinavian classic that complements the clean lines.

The Craft

Solid Throughout

The top is solid European oak. No veneer, no plywood core. Five carefully selected boards considerately positioned to show off as much of the oaks natural beauty as possible.

The side rails are through tenoned into the legs and wedged with a tusk from above. The central stretcher locks everything together with a tusk tenon that can be disassembled for moving.

Finished with Danish oil and a mellow wax to bring out the figure while protecting against daily use.
